The thunderstorm that raked through the District of Columbia and neighboring
Virginia proved to be deadly when a Little league player was killed by a
lightning strike.

A series of lightning-filled storms hammered Virginia, flooding roads and
knocking out power.  Video showed strike after strike, from Culpepper to
Stafford and all across Spotsylvania County.

Tragically, a young boy was killed at a ball park near Fredericksburg.  Team
members were in shock, saying the storm came up fast.

Frank Albright said his son's team, the Yankees, were playing a game at Lee
Hill Park.  He said when someone saw lightning, umpires cleared the field.
Albright said a couple of the players decided to play catch near left field.
That's when a massive lightning bolt hit the ground near the two boys.

Albright said a couple of nurses rushed to the two 12-year olds, and began
resuscitation efforts.  Police said one of the boys died.

Not long after that storm claimed a life, a second storm cell came through the
area, packing an incredible amount of rain.  Many people were grateful just to
ride out the storm.
