LAWTON, Oklahoma -- On his first day in office, Comanche County Assessor Richard Strickland has fired seven of his office's employees.
The Lawton Constitution reports that Strickland fired six field appraisers and Angie Partee, the office's first deputy, on Monday. There had been friction between Strickland and the office employees between his election on Nov. 2 and his taking office.
Documents from the county clerk's office indicates nine of the assessor's office employees filed claims with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over comments they allege Strickland made Dec. 22 when he visited the office.
They say Strickland made inappropriate comments about women and threatened retaliation against those who had campaigned against him. Strickland has denied those allegations.
Asked why he fired the employees, Strickland said, "I got a different posse."
