Cherokee Police Officer Charged With Rape

CHEROKEE, Oklahoma -- A Cherokee police officer has been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors. David Cole, 46, is accused of assaulting a woman inside an apartment at 300 West Cherokee.

He has been charged with felony rape by instrumentation and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The misdemeanor charges are soliciting for prostitution and public officers willful omission to perform duty.

Cole had been working for the police department for a week. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
