Thoughts from OU Media Day

I spent the morning on Owen Field doing the radio show and interviewing coaches and players while Deano was in the Red Room attacking the story from that flank.

7:00am - The combination of freshly mowed football field and sunrise over epic collegiate stadium gives me chills every year.

8:00am - Cale Gundy says freshmen Roy Finch and Brennan Clay are the best receivers of any of his running backs. Finch is one of the major early stories of the fall. Everyone is raving about him.

8:10am - Bob Stoops joins me on the radio.  He is more relaxed and enthusiastic than I ever remember on Media Day. He says Donald Stephenson can be as talented as Trent Williams. Bob brags on the off season work of Ben Habern. He agrees that they shoul have a big ol bowl of good luck coming their way after the trials of last season.

8:20am - Landry Jones laughs that last year he sat on the sidelines at Media Day and nobody wanted to talk to him. My how things  have changed.

8:30am - Jeremy Beal says with alll the new youngstters on defense they have started calling him "old man." He says Jamarkus McFarland has been impressive.

8:35am - Jimmy Stevens says he has added  seven pounds of muscle and it has added length to his kicks. He says he went to California this summer to work with a kicking guru. Hes feeling confident.

8:40am - I asked Dejuan Miller how many touchowns he wanted to catch this year. He said he  doesnt  care as long as they win, but he says 15 is a good number.

8:50am - Ronnell Lewis and I are built a lot alike.

9:00am - Berry Tramel is dressed like the "The Alligator Hunter." Dean iss wearing baby blue and whit checkered shorts. And Dave Sittler is wearing a Les Miles-esque hat that stands a good six-inches above his head. I cant make ffun. I wore black and its 95-degrees.

10:00am - Significantly fewer people at "Meet the Sooners." Still an impressive crowd.

11:30am - I was honored to be askeed to emmcee the CBA Coaches  Luncheon. Brent Venables said his defensse  coouldnt tackle Roy Finch yesterday in practice. Kevin Wilson just smiled.  He knows hes got a new toy. Bob says he thinks this may be his best recruiting class ever. High praise.
