I had a good, long chat with Kevin Wilson today in the team hotel in Scottsdale. He was up early making calls about potential assistant coaches at Indiana before getting into his Fiesta Bowl preparation and duties today.

He told me he will be in the booth Saturday night sitting next to Josh Heupel, but he doesnt plan on interfering with Heupels play calling. He wants Josh to get into a flow and just "go with it." In fact, Wilson said he will pull his microphone up on his headset and stay out of the communication until after drives. Then if Josh wants to talk about anything or consult with him he will at that time.

Wilson raved about how good of an offensive coordinator he thinks Heupel will be. He said he has such a "great feel for the game" that hes a natural. Heupel wanted Kevin with him in the booth to "keep an eye on the frontside." Heupel has naturally watched the quarterback during a play for so long that he wants Kevin to keep an eye on the guys up front (protection) as he trains his eyes to do the same. Interesting.

Yesterday Kevin hired Brent Peas from Boise State to be his offensive coordinator at Indiana. Peas is the receivers coach and assistant head coach at Boise. Nice hire. Hes considered a bright mind. Wilson said he will let Peas call he plays, which I would imagine will take some getting used to for a guy like Wilson who has been calling the shots.

It will be interesting to see if Heupel likes being in the booth or if he misses that eye-to-eye contact with Landry Jones between drives. There are plenty of OCs who work from the field (Dana Holgorsen). I wouldnt be shocked if Heupel decides to move to the sidelines next season. Just a hunch.
