The University of Oklahoma has granted a release to running back Brandon Williams, who will reportedly transfer to Texas A&M.

"He was looking into a couple of places and we granted him that release," said OU head coach Bob Stoops at a press conference Monday.

Stoops also added that when they granted the release that he didn't know what school he was transferring to.

Over the weekend, Taylor Hamm (@GigEm247) reported that Williams committed to the Aggies on Saturday while on campus in College Station.

The freshman from Brookshire, Texas tallied 46 carries for 219 yards this season for the Sooners.

CBS Sports reports that Williams is expected to apply for a hardship waiver that would allow him to play immediately although his request could be denied since he played eight games this season at OU.

If Williams is not granted the waiver he will sit out the 2012 season and have three years of eligibility starting in 2013.

Williams was a five star recruit out of high school after running for 2,438 yards and 33 touchdowns his senior year at Brookshire Royal. Rivals.com ranks Williams is the No. 13 overall player in the country.

Williams is sidelined with a neck injury for the Sooners bowl game against Iowa on Dec. 30.
