Police are calling it a homicide. A mother of two was found dead inside her home just feet away from her young children. Those children were left alone in the front yard and were found by police when officers arrived on the scene.
Investigators were collecting evidence from a home located at 933 Locust Lane in Midwest City Wednesday after discovering a woman in her mid 20's dead inside the home. Police would not release suspect information as of late Wednesday, but neighbors tell News 9 who they believe police could be looking for.
"It's kind of unnerving," neighbor Bruce Martin said.
Martin says he never expected to see the yellow crime scene tape just next door.
"We've never seen anybody over there but the momma and the two babies," Martin said.
Police arrived to the 900th block of Locust Lane in Midwest City after neighbor Timothy Williams called 911 to report two small children alone in the street.
"Something just finally told me that you need to call ," Williams said. "I had a gut feeling something [was] wrong."
Officers found a two-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother alone wearing pajamas in the front yard.
"The little boy indicated that his mommy was inside asleep," Chief Brandon Clabes of the Midwest City police said.
However, his mother was not sleeping. She was found dead with blunt force trauma to her body.
"[The victim's] husband had post-traumatic stress disorder," Williams said. "He just got back from the army. They were recently divorced, and [the ex husband was] court-ordered to not be around [the victim]."
Williams says the name of the victim is Jessica Brown and her husband is Fabian Brown. Court records show Jessica divorced Fabian in April of last year. While neighbors are telling members of the news media the identity of the victim and her family, police have not. No arrests had been made as of late Wednesday.
Police are unsure if the children witnessed their mother's death. Neighbors say the children were alone in the yard for at least one hour before 911 was called. Police say the children are currently in protective custody.
