Is he staying or is he going—that is the question and at this point, no official decision has been made.
The chaos surrounding Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables and whether he is staying at OU or leaving hit complete craziness Wednesday afternoon after multiple Clemson sources reported a contract for him had been sent to their board of trustees.
News 9 sports director Dean Blevins confirms that a contract for Venables was drawn up and sent to the Clemson board of trustees for approval.
Blevins also reports that OU sources are "holding out hope" because at this time the contract has not been signed.
If approved by the board, and signed by Venables, he would become the new defensive coordinator for the Tigers.
Trouble is, the word from Venables is that the reports are premature.
Venables confirmed this to Blevins saying " Working through some details, nothing final either way."
OU head coach Bob Stoops, as well as brother Mike are in Florida recruiting, but another reliable source tells Blevins: "don't know where all this Clemson stuff is coming from....but I can tell you the Stoops brothers are optimistic."
If Venables departs Oklahoma, that leaves Mike Stoops as the sole defensive coordinator for the Sooners, but if he stays the two will share the position.
