He had only been with the department for a few months and was going through the police academy doing Custody Control and Defensive Training Tactics (CDT). Friday was the last day of that CDT training and recruits were doing their six minute drills with different instructors when he collapsed. His head did hit the mat during the training.

Police and the family are awaiting an autopsy result to determine exactly how and why Chase died.

On Monday, several officers at the Oklahoma City Police Department are wearing black bands across their badges in honor of their downed brother-in-arms. And so are several other officers around Oklahoma City.

A memorial fund has been set up for the fallen recruit. If you would like to help the family, you can donate to the Kelley Chase Memorial Fund at any Bank of Oklahoma Branch.
