OKC's Public Works Department is releasing its list of what it calls the 10 "worst" intersections around town.

The list is based on the number of collisions since March of 2009. Topping the list is N.W. Expressway and Belle Isle Boulevard with 237 crashes.

Drivers going west on N.W. Expressway, who have just exited I-44 are allowed to turn right or go straight.

The city has many drivers who will try to cut across the lane designated for those who've exited I-44 to make that right turn as well, even though there is now a barrier separating the lane.

In September, a man on a motorcycle was killed after hitting an SUV making that illegal turn. N.W. Expressway owns the top six most dangerous intersections in OKC.

Here's the list released by OKC Public Works at Tuesday's City Council meeting:

  1. N.W. Expressway and Belle Isle Blvd.
  2. N.W. Expressway and Rockwell
  3. N.W. Expressway and Portland
  4. N.W. Expressway and N.W. 63rd
  5. N.W. Expressway and Lake Hefner Parkway (east side)
  6. N.W. Expressway and Penn
  7. N.W. 39th Expressway and Meridian
  8. N. MacArthur and Reno Avenue
  9. S. Western Ave and S.W. 59th Street
  10. N.W. Expressway and Lake Hefner Parkway (west side)

Improvements like upgraded traffic controllers, more signage and bright LED signal lights have been made at a number of these intersections over the last few years.
