Energy drinks are sending more young people to hospital emergency rooms than ever before.

A report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration says ER visits have doubled in the past four years, from 10,000 to more than 20,000.

Read the SAMHSA report.

Doctors say high doses of caffeine and other additives found in energy drinks, like Red Bull and Monster, are the culprits.  They also say energy drink makers target young people more than any other demographic.

However, the American Beverage Association is critical of the report. They contend that many of those that end up in emergency rooms are also consuming alcohol and drugs.
