In an affidavit issued on Friday, January 18, police say they are looking for 22-year-old Edgardo Garcia in connection with Mejia's murder. According to the affidavit, Victor Manuel Santamaria-Garcia is also wanted for the charge of first-degree murder. Both men lived with the victim at an apartment in Oklahoma City when he was killed.

Officers found two phone numbers written on the back of the victim's belt, and were able to make contact with one of the victim's friends through one number. That friend helped officers get into touch with the victim's former father-in-law, Bonvellio Hernandez, who lives in Honduras.

Hernandez told police that Edgardo Garcia confessed to killing Mejia. Garcia reportedly told Hernandez that they were all drinking at the apartment in Oklahoma City, but got into an argument before Mejia was stabbed to death by Garcia, Victor Manual Santamaria-Garcia, and another man living at the apartment, Miguel Santamaria-Garcia. Garcia told Hernandez they then disposed of Mejia's body.

During the investigation, police say they found out that Mejia's cellphone was still being used or at least turned on. They determined that the phone was being used by Hernandez's son, who used to live near the victim in Oklahoma City.

Hernandez's son told police he was suspicious that something had happened. He said on the morning of December 1, he saw what appeared to be blood stains on the side of Edgardo Garcia's foot.

Hernandez's son told police that Edgardo, Miguel, and Victor Manuel are currently in the Miami, Florida area.
