Utah's ban on same sex marriage is struck down in the 10th U.S. Circuit Court, yet still no decision on our state. But that isn't stopping those on both sides of the issue, from making plans for decision day.
On Oklahoma’s decision day, a coalition called Freedom Oklahoma will host a town hall style event at a metro church.
Mayflower Congregational Church is where many people in support of same sex marriage plan to celebrate or evaluate, pending the outcome.
"We want to make sure the public is educated on what this means, what it means that day, what it means in the coming months," said Troy Stevenson, Executive Director of Freedom Oklahoma.
United Methodist Elder Trina Bose North is planning to attend.
"It's about human life and having individuals participate in our community and churches in a more full way," said Bose North.
There are already plans for several same sex marriages to be performed at Mayflower, by many faith leaders. Bose North said she faces a hard choice because her ordination would be on the line if she performed the ceremony.
"I feel that every person and every church and every denomination is in the practice of interpreting the Bible," said Bose North.
Senior Pastor with Olivet Baptist, Steve Kern is planning to wait until the expected appeal to reach the Supreme Court.
"Would I say what they're doing is biblical? I would say no, it's not biblical, but they have the freedom to do that," said Kern. "I think it's more imposing against states’ rights to determine what the people believe should be guidelines for the way they operate their social order which comes from their conscious. Their religious conscious is part of that," said Pastor Kern.
"Nobody will ever be forced to marry anybody in their church. This is about civil marriage and protecting these couples and protecting their families not about anything else," said Stevenson.
Freedom Oklahoma said it has confirmed 30 same sex couples to be married on decision day.
Another Oklahoma organization, Cimarron Alliance is also planning to host a press conference and rally on decision day.
