It's open enrollment time for those who want to sign up for insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act, best known as Obamacare. Compared to other states, Oklahomans aren't jumping on board.
This is second enrollment term for the Affordable Care Act. You have until February 15 to pick a plan or make changes to an existing plan. While enrollment is underway, Oklahomans aren't so eager to sign up.
Less than 15 percent of Oklahomans have insurance through the program, making our state the 7th lowest marketplace enrollment in the nation. That's why certified marketplace navigators are hosting educational meetings to try to get more Oklahomans enrolled.
Certified marketplace navigator Donna Orban says insurance plans are changing, but not drastically.
On Tuesday, News 9 and OETA are taking part in an informational health care hotline with members of the Oklahoma Primary Care Association. Last year, we answered nearly 300 calls during our hotline event and we hope to help out again.
Just to clarify, we will not be signing people up. We will only answer any questions you might have.
The hotline will be open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The number to call is 1-800-456-8525.
The open enrollment for next year's coverage is happening now until February 15, 2015. If you don't have coverage during the 2015 year, you may have to pay a penalty.
