Douglass High School Football Player Reacts To Judge's Ruling

A Douglass High School football player says a judge's ruling against his school Thursday morning will serve as a strong learning experience for next year's team.

Dionte Brown is a Douglass Trojan Sophomore who played offensive and defensive line on this year's team.

An Oklahoma County District judge Thursday said Douglass' quarterfinal playoff game against Locust Grove will not be replayed.

Referees at that game two weeks ago incorrectly applied a penalty against a Douglass coach after the Trojans scored on a miracle fourth down and forever play with about a minute and a half to play.

“Is it going to be hard even hearing what happens to Locust Grove in the semifinal?” News 9's Steve Shaw asked Dionte.

“It's going to be hard to remember,” he said. “But we always got to take that as a remembrance about what to do and not to do when we play again next year.”

Judge Bernard Jones Thursday said “While this situation could be considered a tragedy, it would be more tragic if the court were to assert itself in this matter.”

Locust Grove plays its semifinal game Friday against Heritage Hall.
