USGS: Five Earthquakes Shake Oklahoma

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported five small earthquakes in Oklahoma Friday afternoon.

At 5:31 a.m., the USGS reported a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the area 11 miles east, northeast of Perry and 16 miles north of Stillwater. That quake was less than two miles deep.

Then, a 2.8 magnitude earthquake shook the area three miles northeast of Medford and 31 miles north, northeast of Enid at 11:53 Friday. The earthquake was less than two miles deep.

Then at 12:11 p.m. Friday, another earthquake shook the state. The 2.7 magnitude quake was reported by the USGS two miles south, southeast of Perry and 14 miles northwest of Stillwater Friday. The earthquake was more than three miles deep.

And at 1:48 p.m., a 3.3 magnitude earthquake shook the area nine miles north of Stillwater and 30 miles south of Ponca City. That quake was more than three miles deep, according to the USGS.

At 2:08 p.m., a 2.8 magnitude quake was reported in almost the exact same location. The USGS reported the earthquake was more than three miles deep as well.

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
