After a difficult process, school board members in Edmond voted on new boundaries map for the district in a 4 to 1 vote.

With two grandchildren in the district, Ed Allen said the new boundaries will be a disruption.

"We assist in getting them to school and picking them up from school and it's harder to get to the proposed school that they want to send them to," Allen explained.

But knowing the district adds an average 500 students each year, parent Jenny Warriner said she supports whatever the board decides.

"There's not a plan that's going to make every single person happy but I think they've done the best and what they think is the best for our kids," Warriner said.

Monday night, board members voted in support of a map that sends Sequoyah Middle School and Cheyenne Middle School students to Edmond North High School; Cimarron, Central and Oakdale students to Edmond Memorial High School; and Heartland and Summit students to Edmond Santa Fe High School.

It's what a committee of parents, staff members and teachers recommended.

Except Monday night, the board voted on a small accommodation for residents near Coltrane and Sorghum Mill Road.

Superintendent Bret Towne said he hopes the transfer policy will help make it more palatable.

"If they want to stay at their high schools next year, they certainly can. We've allowed that for anybody. If they want to stay at their middle schools, we've allowed that for anybody," he explained.

There are also policy exceptions for students trailing an older sibling.
