Oklahoma State junior Tyler Buffett has been named to the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, it was announced today by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
A right-hander from Albuquerque, N.M., Buffett has made a team-high 20 appearances for the Cowboys this season, 19 of those in relief, and is 5-1 with five saves and a 1.48 ERA, with the five wins and five saves already marking career highs. He leads the Big 12 Conference in ERA and opponent batting average (.176) and is tied for second in the league in saves. He’s also among the conference leaders in wins, appearances and strikeouts (45).
In Big 12 play, Buffett is 2-0 with three saves and a 0.82 ERA in seven relief outings. He has allowed only one run in 11.0 innings while racking up 13 strikeouts.
In the month of March, Buffett appeared in 11 of OSU's 18 games and went 4-0 with four saves and a 1.54 ERA to go along with 27 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. He was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week twice (March 7th and 28th).
