Former Oklahoma superstar and National Player of the Year Buddy Hield has been selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the sixth pick in the first round of the NBA draft. Hield becomes the first Sooner to be taken in the lottery since Blake Griffin was selected No. 1 overall by the Clippers in 2009.
It was expected Hield would be taken early on Thursday night and he will now join a team led by NBA all-star Anthony Davis.
Hield averaged 25 points per game in his senior season at OU while making 45.7 percent of his three-point attempts. Hield will bring an immediate scoring presence to the Pelicans and his sharp shooting abilities appear to be right on par with how the league is transitioning its style of play.
