OKC Dad Ditches Daughters In Wrecked Truck Following DUI Crash

A metro dad is facing a slew of charges following a pair of suspected DUI crashes on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say he even fled the scene of the second crash on foot, leaving his two young girls inside the wrecked vehicle.

It happened around 3 p.m. Police were first dispatched to a hit-and-run crash near NE 23rd Street and Glen Ellyn Street, where officers were told a silver Chevy pickup smashed into another vehicle, but continued heading northbound on Kelley Avenue.  

Shortly thereafter, a second call came in regarding the suspect’s vehicle having crashed in the backyard of a home near NE 28th Street and N. Phillips Avenue. The caller stated that the driver of the pickup was banging on the door trying to get inside the home.

Police arrived and located the suspect, 31-year-old Jorge Silva, standing on the front porch of the home, with his pants down around his knees, showing obvious signs of intoxication. One officer held Silva at the home until backup arrived.

When police checked out Silva’s pickup they found his two daughters, ages 6 and 1, injured and crying uncontrollably. The severity of their injuries was not included in the report, but they are not believed to be life threatening. Both girls were taken to OU Children’s Hospital.

Another EMSA unit was called out to take Silva to the hospital, who police say was in a state of “excited delirium.” Officers say Silva was not cooperative, but authorities eventually learned his name and found that he had a suspended license and a previous driving under suspension arrest.

Silva was treated at the hospital and taken to the Oklahoma County Jail on several complaints, including driving under the influence, two counts of child neglect, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under a suspended license, etc. His bond was set at $45,000.

According to the report, the victim in the initial hit-and-run crash also suffered injuries and had to be transported to the hospital. That person’s injuries were non-life threatening.
