Guthrie Police uncovered a large counterfeit money operation in a Langston University dorm room.

Four students are accused of printing and spending fake bills.

Police first caught wind of the scam in late August.

Documents say Kendall Copeland and Dejon Cash purchased alcohol at Zach's Liquor store in Guthrie.

“They bought two fifths of Hennessy, like an $85 purchase,” Dennis Brantley, Zach’s Liquor owner said.

After the two men left, the liquor store clerk noticed something strange about the bills the suspects used to pay.

“He became very suspicious and called me. I came up here and we realized they were counterfeit,” Brantley said.

Brantley contacted Guthrie Police immediately, providing surveillance footage to aid the investigation.

Police were led to the Guthrie Walmart, where four men allegedly bought three gaming systems with fake money.

“Same type of MO. Again, white showing on the sides of the bills. A lot of the serial numbers were the same,” Guthrie Police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs said.

The Guthrie Walmart put out alerts to their other stores.

The four suspects, Copeland, Cash, Rodney English, and Emmanuel Jones-Thomas were caught trying to return the items at the Stillwater Walmart.

“We were able to serve search warrants on residences of these four subjects,” Gibbs said.

The suspects, all students, resided at the Langston University dorms.

According to documents, police found $3,000 in counterfeit cash, 300 credit cards, and an embossing machine in the dorms.

“This was one of the bigger currency manufacturing operations that we've found. It was quite a bit for these individuals,” Gibbs said.

The university declined to comment.
