Several local groups have set their sights on helping local veterans in need.

Veterans can receive personal hygiene kits, hot meals, sack lunches and bottled water at Friday's Sooner Stand Down event. Additionally counseling services are available  for those dealing with PTSD or any other issues.

At the Homeless Alliance's Sooner Stand Down event an estimated 200 low income and homeless veterans will receive services, care and supplies from dozens of organizations. Participants will have access to everything from hair cuts to health care check ups.

During a recent one night survey in Oklahoma City this year, 121 veterans were counted. Compare that to the 190 veterans who were served at OKC Stand Down last year.

This year one of the goals of the event is to house 40 veterans within a month.

The event is at the Homeless Alliance building on NW 4th  Street and Virginia Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 a.m. but the event runs until 3 p.m.
