No arrests have been made in an apparent case of road rage on Interstate 35 that resulted in shots fired at a vehicle Friday.
The victim, who didn’t want to show his face, said he was headed north near the SE 89th St. exit around 5:40 p.m. He said he saw a tan Chevy Tahoe from far behind him speed up to his tail. He said he tapped his brakes, to try and get the driver to give him a little room.
But the victim said that didn't do any good. In fact, he said the suspect got even more aggressive – and tried to pass him on the shoulder, then swerved back and forth. The victim said the suspect eventually got around him, but then pulled over, apparently waiting for the victim to catch back up.
“When we got close to the 240 turnoff, he got over and when I went by him I seen [sic] his window come down and it was just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then he took off,” the victim told News 9.
He said he dodged at least half a dozen bullets while behind the wheel by taking cover when he could behind the passenger seat.
“I’m still shaken up by it. Still, I keep hearing that sound when he was shooting.”
His windows shattered all over the road and one shot even grazed the steering wheel where his hand normally sits. And the right side of his truck is covered in big bullet holes. The victim only has a few scrapes from the glass.
“I could’ve been dead,” he said.
As the victim works to get his truck repaired to the tune of $5,500, police continue to search for the person responsible.
The victim was able to get the suspect's Oklahoma tag - he said it was 023-BAY.
“I don’t want him to do it to someone else, ‘cause I’m lucky,” the victim said.
