At a city council meeting Tuesday, the first MAPS 3 senior center moved closer to construction.
The Oklahoma City council said members voted to approve a real estate purchase agreement as well as final plans for the facility.
The real estate agreement called for the city to buy property at 11501 N. Rockwell Avenue from Putnam City Baptist Church for the first MAPS 3 Senior Health and Wellness Center.
This action allowed the city to advertise the project for construction bids, according to city officials.
They estimated construction on the facility would begin later this year.
City officials said they intend to build four new senior health centers to “encourage healthy lifestyles and serve as gathering places for active seniors.” Each center will be in different parts of the city. Each center will also feature a variety of health, wellness and community activities and services for residents, city officials said.
The real estate purchase agreement outlined in Tuesday's meeting noted the property purchased on North Rockwell was $953,735.
