OKLAHOMA CITY - A family is grieving after learning a decomposed body found Thursday night next to their home, is a loved one.

The body was found by a family member in a vacant lot near Northeast 7th and N. Bath.

They said the man disappeared two years ago.

“I thank God that it's closure now, and we can put him to rest,” said an aunt of the victim.

It was an unsuspected discovery by a child chasing a ball into a wooded area.

The body, of who the family said is 25-year-old Hushan Cordeyus Melvin, also known as "Shane," was found badly decomposed sitting against a tree.

“My grandson's ball rolled back here,” said the aunt. “I called the police and identified that there was a body.”

“My mom was staying right here, and they find my son right there,” said Shane's mother, Tammy Melvin.

And it sat there for nearly two years covered in overgrown weeds.

“He just went missing, and the day that he left my mother's house, we didn't hear anything until today,” said the aunt.

“The feeling, it's a relief, because me and my son, we was more than mom and son,” said Melvin.

Police told the family, a gun and a spent shell casing was found by the body.

Tammy said police believe her son may have shot and killed himself.

“I'm not going to believe that,” said Melvin. “He was an outgoing person, he was a friendly person, he's a lovely person.”

The scene itself was too much to bear for some family members. A woman was carried away from the scene, overwhelmed by the discovery.

“I'm going to miss my baby. I mean, I've been missing him, but now I know I can say my last good byes,” said Melvin.

“Now we can put him to rest,” said Shane's aunt.

Even though the family was told this may have been a suicide by investigators, the Medical Examiner should have an official cause of death sometime next week.

Shane leaves behind two young children, 3 and 5-years-old.
