Authorities confirmed 18-year-old Phillip Colton Jones was arrested after a gun was found on campus at Norman North High School, Monday afternoon.
Norman Police said the school was placed on lockdown after they received a call regarding a disturbance on campus. After police arrived they placed Jones in custody and located a gun.
Police on scene were also searching a black pickup truck in the parking lot on campus. A K9 officer was called in to assist.
Director of Communications and Community Relations for Norman North released the following statement regarding the incident:
"At approximately 2 p.m. Norman North High School went into a lockdown while the Norman Police Dept. worked an incident in the NNHS parking lot involving an allegation of a student distributing marijuana. NPD were there as a result of NNHS administration reporting the allegation to the NPD.
The lockdown has been lifted, the situation contained with the student in NPD custody as a result of marijuana and a weapon being confiscated from the student's vehicle. However, at no time were NNHS students in danger today. NNHS staff and students responded according to Board policy and in a manner that upholds our firm commitment to safe and drug free campuses."
