DEL CITY, Oklahoma -- Firefighters battled a large house fire in Del City Wednesday morning and are now calling the blaze suspicious.

The fire began at about 6 a.m. in the 3000 block of Thomas Drive. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story home.

Brandon Pursell with Del City said firefighters do not believe anyone was home at the time the fire started.

Neighbors confirmed they saw the homeowner leave in his car shortly before the fire started.

Firefighters said nearby power lines presented a challenge in fighting the fire.

Pursell said at this time, the fire is suspicious in nature and the cause is still under investigation.

Investigators said they have not been able to speak to the home's occupants as of Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, but a cat was found deceased inside the home. No names were released.

Fire crews said the home was completely destroyed by the fire.

Anyone with information regarding the fire should call the Del City Fire Marshal's Office at 405-671-2892.
