OKLAHOMA CITY -- Alert neighbors helped Oklahoma City firefighters rescue a man from a burning apartment unit early Sunday morning. Firefighters responded to the fire at the Raindance Apartments on Northwest 122nd near Penn at about 6 a.m.

Fire Battalion Chief Mike Kelley says the department received several calls on the blaze. When they arrived at the scene, they were told there was on occupant still inside who was pulled from the building.

The man is being evaluated for injuries. It appears he suffered smoke inhalation. His name and condition have not been released.

Kelley said the fire obviously started on the kitchen stove and extended to the cabinets over the stove.

Neighbor Albert Williams was making coffee when he smelled smoke. Williams went out onto his balcony, saw smoke coming from his neighbor's apartment. He knocked but did not get a response. He and another neighbor tried to kick in the door and drag the man out.

Firefighters arrived at that time and were able to complete the rescue.
