OKLAHOMA CITY -- SandRidge Energy Company laid off employees Thursday at its Oklahoma City office, according to several sources.
Malaina Vivona, investor relations coordinator, would only say "yes," when asked if the Oklahoma-City based company had laid off people, but would not release a statement on behalf of the company.
"I don't have any information and I know nothing at this time," she said.
Further attempts for information were directed to company officials who were out of town.
It remains unknown how many people were laid off Thursday.
The oil and natural gas company was founded in 1984 and. Chesapeake Energy cofounder Tom Ward is the president and CEO.
Employees like Josh Garrett said they were surprised to find themselves without a job on Thursday.
"It was a complete shock and it happened very quickly and they escorted me out and that was it," he said.
Garrett and others say the layoffs were aimed at the corporate office and severance packages are being offered. Garrett's goal now is finding another job.
"I've got a couple of leads in Dallas and maybe one in Houston," he said.
His hunt for work may be tough. Despite a recent rally on Wall Street, unemployment continues to climb and analyst say they don't expect the labor market to rebound soon.
