The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near W Street and Highway 11 West (Doolin Avenue) as Newkirk Fire Department’s Ambulance 56 was returning from Blackwell Hospital. Emergency officials said the ambulance was caught in low-visibility conditions and collided with other vehicles.

Firefighters and medics were injured in the crash and rushed to the hospital. Two other people were also hurt. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Authorities closed Highway 11 in the area due to low visibility that continues to create dangerous conditions. Officials are urging drivers to avoid the area.
