Losing loved ones is always hard. However, remembering their legacy can help people cope.

One Oklahoma City family reflected on their parents' impact after a crash with a semi took their lives two weeks ago.

Javier Ocampo and Reyna Pallares had a profound impact on Oklahoma City. The community felt their legacy in the classroom and a place many have likely driven past or visited in the heart of Oklahoma City.

Their three sons shared the work they left behind. Jessie Pallares remembered that early June morning when two police officers stood at his door.

“Got that gut-wrenching feeling when someone rang the doorbell,” Jessie Pallares said. “You just kinda know.”

Jessie, Matthew, and Emmy Pallares are still processing the news. “Trying your best to just keep moving forward,” Matthew Pallares said.

Emmy spent the most time with his parents. They took care of their son who requires a wheelchair and routine medical care. “Shocked at what happened,” Emmy Pallares said. “Still kinda numb.”

Jessie and Matthew will step into the picture to fill Emmy’s needs. “We have to remain strong and be there to support our brother,” Jessie Pallares said.

Javier and Reyna left signs of their dedication to OKC. “They went above and beyond,” Matthew Pallares said.

Their parents immigrated from Mexico and bridged the gap toward a better life. “I think that’s very special,” Emmy Pallares said.

Their father helped build a gateway to OKC -- the Skydance Bridge. “They can see what he accomplished,” Emmy Pallares said. “Very hard worker.”

The Skydance Bridge in OKC’s Scissortail Park is a blessing to this family. Their mother taught kids English at OKC’s Linwood Elementary. “She had a huge impact on so many kids,” Matthew Pallares said.

Reyna taught her sons to fulfill their dreams. “That’s something that really makes us proud,” Matthew Pallares said. “Also, it gives us strength to keep going.”

Grief often links people closer together. The love these three brothers share formed the legacy of their parents who are dancing in the sky.

“That’s the spirit we carry on,” Matthew Pallares said.

This family also lost the vehicle that was Emmy's main transportation for him and his wheelchair. The family set up a GoFundMe page for funeral costs and other expenses.
