A metro man was arrested in connection to a crash involving a police officer in northwest Oklahoma City. New court filings reveal the moments surrounding that wreck.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday morning near Northwest 10th and Ann Arbor Avenue, there was a violent collision that left a marked police unit and another vehicle badly mangled.

Police confirmed that the officer was responding to a fight call. According to new court filings, with their lights and sirens activated, the eastbound police officer entered the intersection where they hit a southbound vehicle driven by Fernando Leija.

Following the crash, both drivers went to the hospital to be treated for critical injuries. Both were later released, and Leija was taken straight to jail.

A search warrant reveals Leija was driving without his headlights activated.

An officer noted Leija “showed signs of impairment” and admitted to officers to "consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana prior to the collision.”

Jail records show Leija was arrested for complaints of driving under the influence and driving without headlights. He's since bonded out of jail.
