1 Person In Custody After Barricading Self Inside Home, Norman Police Say

An armed suspect has been taken into custody after barricading themselves inside of a home in southeastern Norman, police say.

Norman Police said the suspect was involved in an assault involving a firearm before fleeing into a residence near 24th Avenue Southeast and East Lindsey Street. In this incident, the suspect pointed a gun at another person, but did not fire it. The suspect then barricaded himself inside a home he was renting.

Norman Police said the NPD SWAT Team worked to establish communication with the person inside the residence.

Authorities evacuated the area, breached the home's front door and took the suspect into custody without incident.

NPD said no one else is inside, but the public was asked to avoid the area as officers worked to resolve the situation.
