IMMY Labs' mega POD is underway at Norman's Embassy Suites. About 10,000 people will be vaccinated in 14 hours with 3,500 vaccines going straight to teachers.

The state said schools will be working with their county health departments to get those vaccines rolled out.

State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister asked teachers to welcome the vaccine and wear masks, wash their hands, and watch their distance.

She said that she supports districts finding ways to get teachers vaccinated without using vacation days and allowing teachers who have symptoms to take time off.

The state said they have more than 85,000 teachers and staff who need the shot. They expect to use 60,000 vaccines at minimum for those educators who want it.

"They are going to have the opportunity to get vaccinated in many numbers of ways. In some ways, it will be strike teams working with their schools. In other ways, it may be specific PODS," said Keith Reed, the state's deputy commissioner of health.

The state told News 9 that they are glad they moved more into the second phase because they have seen a decrease in vaccine demand this past weekend.

"That's a good indicator we need to keep on moving into different phases," Reed said.

People 65 years and older, plus health care and frontline workers, can still get the vaccine if they want one.
