OSDH: 74 More Oklahomans Test Positive For Coronavirus; 6 Additional Virus-Related Deaths Reported

Six more virus-related deaths and 74 more confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in Oklahoma since Tuesday, according to daily numbers released by the state health department.

A total of 4,201 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and a total of 253 virus-related deaths have been reported, the state health department said Wednesday.

Of the six deaths reported, one happened in the last 24 hours and five happened between May 2 to 4.

Four people died in Oklahoma County; three women aged 65 or older and one man aged 50 to 64.

One woman aged 65 or older died in Cleveland County. One woman aged 65 or older died in Creek County.

A total of 784 Oklahomans have been hospitalized due to the virus with 230 currently in the hospital.

As of Wednesday, a total of 78,689 tests have returned negative. This includes state testing and private lab testing since February.

So far, 2,909 Oklahomans have recovered from the virus with 79 more cases considered recovered since Tuesday. Health officials said recovered means the patient is not hospitalized or deceased and it has been 14 days since the onset of symptoms or report.

On April 28, Gov. Kevin Stitt said anyone who wished to take a COVID-19 test could do so even if they are not presenting symptoms.

On April 22, Stitt introduced his multi-phase plan for reopening the state beginning with plans to reopen personal care businesses on Friday by appointment only.

Oklahoma City and Tulsa started reopening on Friday, May 1, after they allowed their shelter in place orders expire.

Stitt issued an executive order April 2 declaring a health emergency in all 77 Oklahoma counties.

The state health department advises anyone with COVID-19 symptoms such as shortness of breath, fever or coughing to stay home and limit person-to-person engagement.
