(New York-AP) -- The New York Mets are considering bringing country singer Garth Brooks to spring training.

Brooks has talked to the Mets about joining them for training at Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Brooks played with the San Diego Padres last spring and went 1-for-22 at the plate. He recently said he was interested in going to spring training again, but with a different team.

A baseball official says Brooks wants to be with a team on the East Coast and also is considering the New York Yankees.

Brooks says his Touch 'Em All Foundation raised one-point-eight (m) million dollars last year. The funds go to children's charities
focusing on health, education and inner-city needs.
