CHICAGO (AP) -- Temperatures in Chicago are expected to remain in single-digits today. It's not that big an improvement from yesterday's start of winter, when one heavily bundled woman said it was so cold it felt like needles were pricking her eyes.
The frigid air mass has moved east, with single digit readings in several Ohio cities.
In Pittsburgh, where the wind chill fell below zero, schools have been closed for the day.
Driving has been hazardous in areas where fierce winds have blown snow back onto roads. Thirty vehicles were involved in a series of pileups on Interstate 94 west of Detroit.
And in Arizona, a third storm is expected by afternoon, bringing up to 10 inches of snow in higher elevations.
The weather is taking not only a bitter toll on noses, fingers and toes, but it's having a brutal effect on holiday shopping as well.
