Many players who enter the NBA based solely on their athleticism fade into obscurity before their rookie years are even up. Others take that athletic ability and turn it into something special.

DeRozan could slide to either end of that spectrum. Many scouts describe him as potentially the next Vince Carter, while others say he could be the next Gerald Green.

Whether DeRozan will be an effective player sooner or later, for the time being he will simply put on a show. One concern the Raptors should have is the possibility of him hitting his head on the rim during a dunk and knocking himself out.

He apparently has a vertical leap (40-plus inches) that puts him among the most athletic guards in the NBA.

DeRozan is a risky pick, but he is an exciting young player sure to bring the Toronto crowd to its feet.
