OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Boeing Company says construction has begun on its new office building in Oklahoma City.

The company announced in a news release Friday that the six-story, 320,000-square-foot building is expected to open during the second quarter of 2012. The building will be Boeing's second office building on its campus in southeast Oklahoma City.

Boeing announced last August that it would move its B-1and C-130 Avionics Modernization Program and about 500 jobs from Long Beach, Calif., to Oklahoma City.

Boeing vice president Mark Bass said in Friday's release that the move will lower the company's operating costs.

Boeing says it currently has 945 employees in Oklahoma with 745 of them in Oklahoma City. The number will increase to nearly 1,500 in the state when the move is complete.
