OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sara and James Shively spent almost $200.00 to have a Christmas gift delivered by FedEx. They were shocked when their home surveillance system caught the delivery driver throwing their package across their yard.
"It could have been glass. It could have been anything," said Sara Shively. "I mean ours was computers."
Shively found the package with two computers inside it next to her front porch Saturday afternoon. She said it looked like it had been thrown and her home security cameras showed that is exactly what happened. The footage shows the delivery driver getting out of the FedEx truck with the box. He tosses it up and down as he approached the Shively's gate. Then he winds up tosses the package. Another camera catches the box landing about 18 feet away from the fence.
"There were cars in the driveway and he didn't even attempt to come up to my front door. He just stood at my fence and threw it into the yard," explained Shively. "I mean it's a good little distance from my front porch to my fence and it landed at the bottom of my porch."
The boxes that the two computers were in had slight damage to them. Shively said when she first turned the computer on half of the screen was black. Monday afternoon, however, both computers were in working order.
News 9 contacted FedEx about the incident and told them exactly what the surveillance tape shows. FedEx released the following statement:
"FedEx Ground holds all of its team members to the highest standards of conduct and we regret the inconvenience caused by this situation. We have processes in place to address pickup and delivery concerns and hope to have the opportunity to correct this situation and provide a more outstanding FedEx experience in the future."
"Honestly, I would like to see that driver fired," said Shively. "That's just unacceptable. You don't just toss a package."
FedEx also told News 9 that local management was investigating the incident and said the driver involved was employed by an independent contractor.
The company said customers with complaints can submit them online at fedex.com/us/claimsonline or call customer service at 1.800.GoFedEx.
