Near Collision Leads To Drug Bust In Southwest OKC

A police officer discovered a large stash of drugs after the suspect nearly caused a crash at a southwest Oklahoma City intersection.

On November 2, the officer was driving south at S.W. 44th Street and Western when a red Chevy Aveo ran a red light and nearly hit another car. The officer pulled over the driver and asked for her driver's license and insurance.

According to the police report, the woman behind the wheel, 43-year-old Erlinda Ramirez, told the officer her license was suspended. The officer detained her in the back of his patrol car, and discovered she had several city warrants for traffic violations, destruction of property, and failure to appear in court.

While looking into Ramirez's car, the officer saw a baggy of what appeared to be methamphetamine in her open purse, along with a large wad of cash. The officer tested the substance and it was positive for meth.

The officer then searched the rest of the car and found more meth. He also found three large bundles of marijuana. One was wrapped in FedEx packaging and addressed to a home in southwest Oklahoma City.

In all, police found more than 30 grams of meth, and 779 grams – or 1.7 pounds – of marijuana in Ramirez's car. She was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of drug trafficking, drug possession, disregarding a traffic control device, and driving under suspension.
