Sooner Baseball Wins Another Wild Contest Over ORU

For the second night in a row, the Golden Eagles put up a fight against No. 17 Oklahoma in Norman, but the Sooners got the best of Oral Roberts on Wednesday evening, 11-7.

The loss is the Golden Eagles 11th straight, dropping to 5-15 overall. They begin conference play Friday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium as up-and-coming Central Arkansas visits Tulsa. UCA enters the three-game series ranked No. 23 in Baseball America.

Friday's game was originally schedule for a 6:30 p.m. start has been moved up to 4. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's at 1, weather permitting.

Against the Sooners on Wednesday, Logan Domenico had a big evening with three hits in his first three at bats. In the first, he helped put ORU on the board with a single that scored Graham McIntyre who reached earlier in the inning on a misplayed fly ball.

The Sooners answered with runs in the first and second innings and added three in the bottom of the third to go up 5-0. However, the Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the top of the fourth.

Chris Williams, Austen Colt and Brandy Healy each singled in the Golden Eagle fourth as Williams crossed the plate on Healy's single. Colt then scored on a ground ball to third from Goro that was misplayed.

After the Sooners added another run in the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles answered again to take the lead.

Domenico led the inning off with another single to right, followed by a Boss single before Matt Brandy added a third single, driving in Domenico. After Williams was hit by a pitch to load the bases, a pitch got away from the Oklahoma catcher that allowed Boss to score.

The Golden Eagles again loaded the bases just before Goro drew a four pitch walk to score a run. The final run of the inning came with McIntyre at the plate as Williams crossed the plate on a wild pitch, giving the Golden Eagles an 7-6 lead.

Oklahoma added three runs in the top of the fifth on a pair of hits, two in the sixth on a home run to left from Matt Oberste and two in the seventh as Jack Mayfield drilled the left field foul pole.

In the Golden Eagle half of the eighth, Boss added an RBI as he flew out to right with the bases loaded to score Goro who was plunked by a pitch to lead the inning off.

OU added two runs in their final half inning to extend the lead to 15-8.

The Golden Eagles rattled off 11 hits in the ball game, none of which were extra base hits. Seven of the nine starters in the lineup recorded hits with Domenico leading the way with four and Colt added two. McIntyre, Boss, Brandy, Williams and Brandon Healy had one each. Domenico's four hits is the most by a Golden Eagle this season and a career high.

Pepe Gomez earned the loss in the contest for his first decision of the year, going two innings.

Five Sooners finished with a multiple hits, including three from Oberste and three from Hector Lorenzana.
