We now know the real reason dozens of tenants, many of them elderly and of modest means, have to move their mobile homes out of Meadow Ridge Mobile Home Park in Shawnee by June 10.
The management company that owns it gave tenants their 60-day notices to get out earlier this week.
The company said the well water in the park is tainted, and it would take $250,000 to fix it. No, the real reason is that Meadow Ridge Investments, the company that owns this poor mobile home park, hasn't paid property taxes in four years.
The company owes Pottawatomie County $22,000 in back taxes, according to the county treasurer. The treasurer also told News 9 Meadow Ridge Mobile Homes will be auctioned off at the Pottawatomie County Courthouse at 9 a.m. June 9.
Meadow Ridge's manager again did not answer her door when I knocked on it Friday afternoon. But she, or somebody in the park, did manage to call the sheriff's department and have us kicked off the property a short time later.
Tiffany Bierd is one of many Meadow Ridge Residents who now have to scramble to move their mobile homes out, and find a new place.
"It just adds on top of everything. It's just more things he didn't do and it's making all of us suffer," she said.
By the way, the Oklahoma DEQ is now investigating a large, deep pool of what looks like raw sewage next to Amber Crook's double wide, in Meadow Ridge.
"It's sickening. People should be ashamed for it," she said.
