There's apparently a new way to help us shed the pounds. And it all starts with a makeover in our kitchen.

It's not enough to have healthy snacks, fruit and veggies on hand. They've got to be front and center. Researchers at Cornell University say putting those healthier foods to more visible spots means you're more likely to grab those for a snack.

Try to hide the junk food. If you buy in bulk, the more you're likely to eat. But if you do, make single serving packets using those sandwich baggies.

Also, don't make the kitchen comfortable. The more time you spend in there, the more time you're likely to overeat. Take out those comfortable chairs, TVs or computers. Also de-clutter. An organized kitchen can be a “healthy kitchen.”

In fact, research shows 44 percent of those with toasters, blenders or cutting boards on the counters will eat more food.

Here's the best tip of all. When you're serving lunch or dinner, keep all the food on the stove or counter. If you put food on the table, you're more likely to go for a second serving.
