Oklahoma State outfielder Jon Littell has been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, it was announced by the conference office today.
Littell, who shares this week's honor with Michael Cantu of Texas, helped the Cowboys to a 3-1 showing at the Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge in Arizona. The freshman started all four games in the outfield and hit .429 (6-for-14) with a pair of doubles and five RBIs, the second most of any OSU player in the tourney. He added a pair of walks to record a .500 on-base percentage and also turned in a .571 slugging percentage.
Littell recorded RBIs in three of the four contests, including a career-high three RBIs in a win over Washington State. He also had a career-high three hits against the Cougars, marking one of his two multi-hit efforts in the tourney.
Defensively, Littell played error-free ball as he split time between left and right field and recorded seven putouts.
Littell's honor marks the second-straight Big 12 Newcomer of Week award for OSU. Sophomore Kevin Bradley was selected as the league's top newcomer following the opening week of the season.
