Number Of Flu Deaths In Oklahoma Climbs Closer To Century Mark

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports six more residents have died due to the flu in the latest numbers released Thursday.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports six more residents have died due to the flu in the latest numbers released Thursday. That brings the total number of flu-related deaths this flu season to 90.

The OSDH says all six of the deaths were reported in central and western Oklahoma between February 18 and February 24.

The latest deaths occurred in Canadian, Custer, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Stephens counties.

OSDH officials say the number of flu-related hospitalizations is down for the week of February 18 to February 24. Only 43 hospitalizations were reported.

The current flu season began on September 28, 2014.

Statewide, the OSDH reports 81 of the 90 flu-related deaths this season were residents 50 years of age or older.
