The next time a friend or co-worker asks to borrow your Netflix account, you may want to think twice. That's because it might be illegal for you to give them your information.
We've all heard the phrase, "sharing is caring," but in this case sharing your Netflix password could be a federal crime.
A California judge upheld the conviction of a man who left his job, but still used the password of someone working there to use the company database.
He was eventually charged and sentenced to prison time, probation, and fines. The judge on the case says the ruling could make millions of Americans who share their Netflix passwords “unwitting federal criminals.”
Recently Netflix's CEO says he doesn't mind when people share their passwords because it creates a bigger audience.
