A truck driver in Moore says a complete stranger walked into the Walmart at SW 19th and I-35 Friday morning and paid $200 towards his family’s layaway bill.
The family home of Michael Smith in Noble burned down two years ago. His wife, Sheila, suffered a stroke a week later. Smith says Monday he had planned to ask Walmart for more time to pay off the $550 he spent buying Christmas presents for his and Sheila’s three children.
“It brightens me up,” he said of receiving the good deed. “She’s a Christmas angel is what I’m going to call her. She’s anonymous. I’m just going to call her a Christmas angel.”
Walmart confirms the anonymous benefactor actually paid several hundred dollars towards helping families in need pay their debts to the store. The only thing we know about the woman is that she told a Walmart assistant manager Friday that her daughter recently had died from a long illness and her daughter’s mission around Christmastime was always to pay it forward.
“It’s a huge blessing to our family,” said Sheila Saturday afternoon.
