A six-hour standoff at a southwest Oklahoma City home on Monday ends with six arrests. Investigators also seized weapons, drugs and ammunition from the home and a vehicle.

Police surrounded the home in the 2400 block of South Woodward in an effort to take 27-year-old Keenan James, a wanted assault suspect, into custody.

Someone at the home released a pit bull off the porch. The dog was shot by police after it charged at detectives. The dog survived and is being treated at a local vet hospital.

Three people at the home surrendered early in the standoff, but James and two others barricaded themselves inside, reportedly with weapons and a pipe bomb.

“Five, six hours later I saw them bring them out right over here one at a time,” said John Ware, neighbor. “Put them on their knees, handcuff them and bring them to the vehicles out here.”

Police took six people into custody including the wanted man. Investigators remained at the home throughout the night searching the property.

“They were there until I guess about 11 or 12 last night,” said Ware.

The police report states investigators seized a number of weapons, ammo and drugs from the home and from an SUV.

Ware did not know the arrested neighbors but is thankful the intense standoff ended peacefully.

“The worst thing that happened is the dog got shot and the dog is alive,” said Lt. Jeff Flaggart, Oklahoma City Police Department. “So, everything is OK, everybody is in custody so it all worked out.”

Police said several of the people taken into custody are known gang members.
