Campus controversy has overtaken a university, but this time it's in Southern California.

A student legislative panel at Cal-Irvine decided to ban all flags in the lobby of the student government offices, yes even and almost especially the American flag.

The students wanted Old Glory out of there they say because it's been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism.

To that I would simply say that their junior high, high school and UC Irvine teachers have failed them miserably.

That these college students are unable to grasp the tremendous sacrifices that have kept that flag flying, what it means to enjoy the freedoms under it, these students need a course in remedial US History… I'm talking 7th grade stuff.

Fortunately an executive committee of students vetoed their underlying decision, but the student legislature was set to night to try to override that veto.

That meeting was canceled because someone threatened that there would be violence at the meeting if they got together.

Meanwhile, a couple of real legislators in California have proposed a constitutional amendment that would protect the flag from being banished from state-funded colleges and universities.

How pathetic that would even be necessary.
